SHOPPING OUR STASH #381 - Inspired by a Food or Beverage Label

Hello and welcome back my friends!

This week I'm hosting at SHOPPING OUR STASH,

and I've picked another crazy challenge for you. LOL!

This week, we want you to make something that was 

inspired by a food or beverage label!

For my card, I was inspired by the Harvester wine label:

and the inside:

I used two stamps from the same set, and with the help of

some masking, created my flowery panel.

I gotta say, this was so much fun to make!

I Ain't Got No...Body

Hello peeps and happy Wednesday to you!

I was working on a mixed media canvas the last few days

and finally finished it.

Still in the Halloween mood, of course,

as it's my favorite holiday. Take a look:

 

 Here are a few process pics. I prepped the canvas with gesso, and once dry

added the music sheet paper with matte medium. I got into playing and forgot

to take pics of that first. LOL!

Next layer was the skull stencil with crackle paste and the snakeskin stecil

with modeling paste. I added some texture sand paste randomly around the

edges once the stencil layer was dry.

 Added a wash of Paynes Grey around skull.

 Then Primary Yellow and more Paynes Grey over that.

 

Next I went over the entire canvas with Quinacridrone Gold,

 blotting some back with a baby wipe, especially on the skull.

I wanted it to look aged, but not too orange.

I swiped a Jet Black Staz On ink pad over the snakeskin stencil to bring

the texture out more, and also around the canvas edges.

The sentiment? Well that was what inspired this canvas.

And it was my husband's idea!

We have this big skull sitting on the stair landing, and he 

just started singing "I ain't got no body." After laughing

our asses off, I said that was brilliant and I needed to

make a punny skull project! 

I used alpha stamps to stamp the sentiment on white card stock,

then aged it with tan and brown sponged ink. Also stamped some

texture using gray ink.

That was applied with matte medium. Once dry I sealed it with 

matte varnish.

I added the flowers to ground my skull and that was it!

SHOPPING OUR STASH # 375 - Giving Thanks

Hello and welcome back crafty friends!

This week at SHOPPING OUR STASH

we are giving thanks, either to celebrate Thanksgiving, or 

as a simple Thank You, your choice!

Here's what I came up with:

I used a few powder dyes spritzed with water on some mixed media

paper for a water color look. Once dry, I spritzed it again, this time with gold Glimmer Mist.

This was die cut using a leaf cover plate.

I tried to get a close up picture of all the gorgeous shimmer, but you

know it's super hard to achieve.

The single leaf on my sentiment panel is actually a 3D foam leaf from Scrapbook Adhesives.

I won a package of them many years ago, and recently came across them, the package

never opened until now. I dipped one of the sides in embossing powder and heat embossed it.

Looks really cool so now I may have to try this technique again.

SISTERHOOD OF SNARKY STAMPERS #116 - D is for Denim

Hello snarky friends and welcome to another fun challenge

starting at the SISTERHOOD OF SNARKY STAMPERS:

D is for Denim!

Look at Edna, spitting in the face of the fashion police, and getting

her double denim on! Such a rebel! LOL!

I haven't made an art journal page in months, so that's what I did for this challenge:

I found a quote to use while searching on Mr. Google.

I couldn't find the source of this quote, so if anyone

knows, leave me a comment so I can give credit. Thanks!

I tried using rubbing alcohol and a scrap of denim as a resist on the gal's dress,

to make it look as if her dress was denim.

On my first attempt, the scrap of denim was too saturated, and 

bled way too much. 

My second attempt worked much better!

Tip: if you try this technique, do this step first, and

be sure the rubbing alcohol is completely dry before coloring the

rest of it, otherwise what you color next will bleed.

I colored her with Spectrum Noir markers and added details

with Prismacolor pencils. I fussy cut her out and set aside to

work on my page.

I used pink, coral and orange acrylic paints for the base, then added

different stenciled images using the coral plus white and blue. I used

too much paint on some of the stencils, but decided to embrace the mess.

To hide the blobby blue mess I made with the blue paint, I simply

put the stencil back over it when it was dry and traced the image with a black

Artist PITT pen. I used alpha stamps to stamp the sentiment on copy paper.

I trimmed and glued them along with my peace gal onto the page with

matte medium.

After everything was dry, I added a shadow under her to ground her,

and doodled around the words and also added white dots to the blue leaves.

I still wasn't finished stenciling, so I used another one and traced some

flowers with a gold pen. I also added Stickles to her flower tiara and the 

peace sign she's holding.

SHOPPING OUR STASH #366 - Silhouettes

Welcome and happy Tuesday to you!

This week at

SHOPPING OUR STASH, we are looking for

Silhouettes on your projects.

I decided to use a gel print I made months ago, and didn't really like. 

But trimming it down and using it as a background to

my silhouette stamp changed my mind:

I shopped my snippet files for paper pieces to use and even

used a long neglected star border die. My card design is based off an

older sketch (#317!) from Sketch Saturday.

SHOPPING OUR STASH #355 - April Showers Bring May Flowers

Hi there and happy Tuesday to you!

Today starts a fun new challenge at

SHOPPING OUR STASH:

we want to see a flower (or flowers) on your projects!

 

I tried out a stencil that I won last year but this was the first time I used it:

I smooshed some Distress Inks onto my craft mat, then mixed embossing paste into the ink.

I applied the green first, then the pink. Once I had covered the stencil, I carefully swiped the

excess paste off, making sure to blend the green into the pink. When you lift up the stencil,

you have a subtle blending of the colors.

I left it to dry overnight, then simply matted it with a scrap of green DP, heat embossed

the sentiment, adhered it all on my card base, and added some sequins for 

a bit of extra bling.

STAMPlorations May Theme & Sketch Challenge Reminder

Hi there crafty friends!

Just popping in with a reminder about the

STAMPlorations May Theme & Sketch Challenge!

(No sketch this month, but the theme is anything with wings!)

I've made another birthday card, because, we all need them! LOL!

Here's the finished inside:

I started with a grey card base and used one of the stamps from the

Mixed Media Elements set to stamp the stripes along the one edge. I cut

a piece of DP a bit shorter than the card base and stamped the Happy Birthday

sentiment from the Balloons and Banners set using my MISTI.

I cut a banner from a scrap of DP and stamped another mixed media image around

 the edges then adhered. I had some gelli prints needing some use,

 so I used one of them to cut my dragonflies from.

The larger dragonfly was die cut using the solid die from the Dragonfly Layering Dies set

and I doodled the shape with a black PITT pen. The smaller dragonfly was stamped

from the Winged Things stamp set and fussy cut. I added some shimmer to both

with a Wink of Stella pen.

Ooh! Shimmery!

The inside uses a couple more stamps from the same stamp sets.
