SHOPPING OUR STASH #221 - Wooden It Be Nice

Hello and good morning crafty peeps! This week at SHOPPING OUR STASH, we'd like to see some type of wooden element on your project. (Ex: wooden letters/shapes, paper, patterned paper, veneer, etc.) I was feeling nostalgic, so I broke out my Slice die cutter (that I've had since perhaps 2010, probably longer), and made some ornaments. Check it:

In certain lighting, the color of the wooden peace word and the darker blue card stock I used actually match. Not so much in this photo. Oh well. After I die cut all the parts-is-parts* of the ornaments, I thought they needed a little somethin' somethin'. So I embossed some of the pieces. There, that's better. The peace word was painted then when dry, I gave it a spritz of pearl Glimmer Mist for some subtle shimmer. Of course, you can't see it in the above picture. But it's there. Trust me. ☺ I added some silver floss so that the ornaments wouldn't be magically hovering by themselves.

Beware! Monstahs ahead!

Hey all! I have a cute Halloween card to share:

 Here's the inside:

I've been playing with my Slice die cutter for this card. As long as I've had it, I only just bought the Toils & Trouble cartridge a couple months ago. OMG! Just LOOK at that awesome monstah!! I cut him first to fit within the yellow circle, but changed my mind and cut him a bit bigger. I stacked and glued two of the monstahs together, then covered him with Glossy Accents. After he dried, I stuck him on with foam squares, then added a googly eye.

Ooooh! Shiny monstah!!!

The sentiment was another die cut from the same cartridge. I just loved the font! This little guy is so cute, but don't let that cuteness fool you: he's sitting on top of a pile of skulls! LOL!

JUST US GIRLS #312 - Photo Week

Good morning and welcome! It's Photo Week at JUST US GIRLS! Vicki is your hostess this week and she's found this fabulous photo to draw inspiration from! Here's how I interpreted it:

The background was homework from the Online Card Class: Watercolor - Exploring Mediums, day 2. I used a couple Distress Inks and, as Laura Bassen said, made this dreamy watercolor-y background. The birthday, flower, and leaf dies are NBUS, finally put to use. Yay me! The birthday die was cut 3 times and stacked for some dimension. I'm also digging that it extends off both sides of the card a tad. That striped background I had to MacGyver by cutting strips of black card stock and adhering to the card base. I can't believe I have no black and white striped DP! Well, I do, sort of, but it's all aged and distressed, and not white. I'll have to remedy that.

So, what jumps out at you when you look at this picture? The stripes? The yellow flowers? The polka dots? Why not make a project and link it up at Just Us Girls! We'd love to see it! While there, be sure to check out what the other gals, and our September GD, Melissa Dawn Lane, have come up with.

So, I took an online card class.....

Yep. Finally jumped on the OCC* bandwagon and I'm getting learnt. This card is the result of day one of Watercolor: Exploring Mediums Day 1. I'm a bit behind, but I plan to be getting crafty all day today. I've used my much neglected Marvy Uchida markers to watercolor the image. This was a practice-and-learn-as-you-paint kinda coloring job, so it's water colory is some spots, and not so much in others. But I'm happy for the most part how it came out. Check it:

(The sentiment didn't ink well in some places. But, I've ordered

a MISTI, so I'll be getting better coverage soon! Woot Woot!)

I based my coloring skillz using Jennifer McGuire's 3rd video on day 1. Using Marvy Uchida markers, a paint brush, and a cup-o-water, I tried to watercolor the gold embossed image. Yeah, I know, I still have a lllloooonnnnggggg way to go. But it's a first attempt. I'll continue to keep at it. ☺

I think my problem was that when I tried to go over some of the places, I didn't leave the paper to dry completely, so it still looks too blended and not so splotchy, as watercolor should look. Oh well.

SHOPPING OUR STASH #220 - Show Us Your Smile!

Hello and good day to you! We have a fabulous challenge starting today at SHOPPING OUR STASH; Show Us Your Smile! We would like you to use an image with a smile on it, or as an option, use the word 'smile' on your project. Here's what I came up with:

So, if you can believe it, that vertical panel of minions is Ducktape (that's how it's spelled on the packaging - obviously found at a craft store rather than the corner Ace Hardware. LOL!) And talk about shopping my stash, that main panel minion is actually a tag from a t-shirt I bought some time ago. I wasn't throwing it away. Just look at him. He's sooooooo cute!! I backed him onto some black card stock before adhering him the the card with foam squares. For the inside, I mimicked the salutation from the ducktape, spelling and all. I had a bit of tape left when I cut a piece off, so I stuck it on a scrap of card stock and fussy cut one of the grinning minions out and there he is at the bottom of the card!

SISTERHOOD OF SNARKY STAMPERS #43 - P is for Punk, STEAMpunk, that is!

Sister Lee outdid herself with coming up with this graphic! LOVE IT!!

That's right. We had such a fun time with this last year at the SISTERHOOD OF SNARKY STAMPERS, that we had to bring it back: P is for Punk - as in SteamPUNK!! Here is the card I made:

I got out my SN markers and colored up this digi I've had for a while. I specifically got it for this challenge, and I love how it came out! (*pats self on back.* I just need to work on my photographing skills as she looks a bit washed out in the above pic. Sigh.) I even used the Google to look up Steampunky-ish quotes, and as soon as I saw this one, I knew I was going to use it. (Sherlock Holmes. 'Nuff said) I made a grouping of gears, a flower and a skull, then added some swirly rhinestones before sticking on the cut up and inked sentiment with foam squares.

JUST US GIRLS #311 - Color Week!

Hiya crafty peeps! It's Color Week at JUST US GIRLS! Maria is your hostess with the mostest and she's picked some gorgeous colors for you to be inspired by: ORANGE, RED, and YELLOW! These colors just scream Autumn! Here's the card I made:

The background panel was made by stamping and clear embossing the background stamp, then going over it with a few Distress Inks. After that I spritzed it with some pearl Glimmer Mist for a bit of shimmer. I stamped and fussy cut the pumpkin and adhered it with foam squares. (Looking at that pumpkin has made me think that I need to get a MISTI, And I will. When I get back from my beach vacation. That I've been on for the past week and sadly am leaving to come back home today. Insert sad trumpet sound here.)

SHOPPING OUR STASH #219 - Outta This World

Good morning and welcome! A new challenge is starting at SHOPPING OUR STASH - Outta This World! We'd like to see you use aliens (any sort of monster would work here) on your project. If aliens don't float your boat, as an alternative, you could use anything celestial (moon, stars, planets, etc.) See? Choices! Here's my card:

Last year we did a challenge to try a faux technique, and I made this card using the faux Northern Lights tutorial. I made a couple attempts, my second attempt turning out much better. But, I couldn't throw that other panel away. Nope. Just. Couldn't. Do. It. So I kept it thinking some day I might use it. That day has arrived. I die cut the sky panel into a smaller square. I had to MacGyver the embossed star panel and partially run it through my GC few times, since I insisted in stamping the sentiment in the bottom corner, and the folder frames I have don't have a space that far in the corner. (If you have the Darice folder frames, you'll understand what I just said. Hopefully.) Anyway, that getting done, I stamped, colored and fussy cut my little alien, and added Glossy Accents and Crystal Stickles. A few star shaped rhinestones and it was done.

I paper pieced the hot air balloon, and set it up on a wonky panel that's adhered with foam squares.

I left the inside blank, as I'm not sure whether to make this a graduation card, or maybe a moving-to-a-new-home type card. I guess I'll find out when I need to use it! LOL!
